Notes and comments:
This is one of the lower end systems that I will build.  It has A LOT of upgradability with the LGA775 chipset and the Foxconn motherboard is capable of 800MHz on the front side bus.  It will be capable of playing everything available up to DOOM 3 on at least the low settings.

Diary

  • 5/9/2005: My wife is NOT happy with my comments (humorously), stating that it will be the best computer in the world.  In which case, if anyone has $1,000,000 I will sell it to them. A deal for the best computer in the world, right? :)
  • 5/10/2005: The case and speakers came today. The green of the case and green of the speakers match perfectly. So we now have a case and a power supply.  I had to order a 120MM Green LED fan for the back of the case. The case is tool less and has been excellent to work on so far.  Unfortunately, the Aspire PSU has an erratic sounding hum when just powered up and not connected to anything.  I’ve got a PSU tester on the way before I plug it into 100’s of dollars of equipment. I really DO NOT want a barbecue.
  • 5/13/2005: Its all coming together.  Started assembly last night and while I’m still waiting for the power supply tester (power supply has a slight hum without being connected to any peripherals when the power rocker is turned on), but the rest of the system is coming together nicely.
  • 5/14/2005: Spent from 9PM to 2AM this morning playing withthe Sicuro 2.1 Gaming Speakers on Demon...VERY NICE! :)
  • 5/21/2005: “I could see its guts and everything” would be an appropriate description here.  Many many many pieces and parts were abound.  I finally got my workhorse (Dell Optiplex GX240) plugged in and setup to do these updates. Well, the “silent” 120mm green LED fan arrived, along with a 17” black Rosewill monitor that we ordered.  My wife is now a very happy camper.
  • 6/8/2005: Err, I hope I get a chance to finish this case, but my wife has found online music and games like Mahjong, so the PC is never shut off enough for me to finish up the cabling.  But I do have the pieces in stock to do it, and I have hopes that someday I’ll have the PC for long enough as well.  We’ll have to see how long this takes.
  • 7/6/2005: D’Oh, lost the green CCT light and I still haven’t had time to complete the internals.
